Traditional Gifts: 14th Anniversary

IVORY

Ivory is the traditional 14th anniversary gift. Elephants are massive and beautiful creatures that can live up to 70 years in the wild! Of course, they are also a protected species and we would never condone poaching or any actual ivory gift. Instead, draw on the elephant theme which represents the stability and length of your successful marriage at 14 years.

Ivory Accent Chair

We recently transformed our kids playroom into what they now call the “fancy room” that is just for us. And we wish we did it sooner! Having an adult room with seating like this modern accent chair where we can sit and have coffee and conversation together has been a huge positive for our relationship. Two of these Ivory chairs surrounding a coffee table and sofa is just what you need for your 14th anniversary!

Ivory Rug

Full disclosure: we own three Ruggable rugs and can’t recommend them enough! It’s so easy and convenient washing them regularly, especially on bad weather days or kids coming home from outdoor activities. We know our floors are being protected and the rugs will come out of the washing machine looking brand new. Our 14th Anniversary Gifts to Each Other

Jay to Annie

There seemed to be endless options when I started researching ivory anniversary gifts. Ultimately I found one that related to a childhood memory and the other had a special meaning to just Annie and me. First, the obvious ivory choice is something elephant-related, and that’s my childhood memory. My grandma would collect elephant figurines so it’s always been something in the back of my mind. I found this beautiful personalized vase on Etsy with our hand painted initials and two cute elephants joining trunks. It’s been on our bedroom dresser ever since with some pretty faux flowers, and is a daily reminder of our lasting love together.

Jay to Annie

The second ivory gift that I found on Etsy had a special and hidden message that was just for us. It’s so hidden that without the code we can’t even read what it says! I bought Annie a bracelet that used ivory and rose gold beads that translated into our wedding date using Morse Code. It’s a pretty and dainty piece of jewelry, but has a special double meaning that’s just for us. (And I guess all of you now.)

Annie to Jay

Jay doesn’t wear jewelry except his wedding band or a silver watch from time to time and typically doesn’t wear much white clothing, so ivory was a little difficult at first. But after some research on Etsy, I found a monogrammed handkerchief that I really liked. It has our initials along with our wedding date and makes for a really nice accessory when Jay gets dressed up for a wedding or formal event. He hasn’t had many opportunities to use it yet, but hopefully he will over the coming years!
