Silverware is the modern 5th anniversary gift. A couch from one house, a bed from another, an old dining room table from a parent, and a TV that has seen better days. When couples move in together, they often each bring pieces from their prior lives in order to fill out the bare necessities in a house. Silverware, though used every day, is rarely thought about or given any real consideration. If you’re still using old and cheap silverware from your single days, five years into a marriage seems like as good a time as any to upgrade to a new set so family meal times can have even more meaning and memories.

Jay didn’t need any silverware, so instead I bought him silver… to wear. (I need to stop letting Jay write Dad jokes!). He didn’t need any cooking utensils or BBQ tools, so I bought him a Fossil watch that worked great for casual outfits. All of his other watches were a bit dressier for work and formal events, so he needed more of an everyday watch. He loved the one I picked out and has enjoyed filling out the display case I bought for him on our 1st anniversary.
Jay to Annie
We decided on this anniversary gift together given the planning that needed to be done. Annie wanted her engagement and wedding bands combined and upgraded so that she only needed one ring. We took the small diamonds from the wedding band and added them onto a wider silver band that housed the engagement ring. It really gave the ring an extra sparkle!
