Jay & Annie’s Love Story

And we’re back! It’s been a whirlwind learning how to set up this blog the last few weeks. Not sure why we thought it’d be easy! We do have to admit one small thing though – we are fairly private people and this is way (waaayyyy) out of our comfort zone. It’s not something we ever thought we’d do, but we’ve struggled to find a perfect present for each other some years. It seemed like our experiences might be able to help one of you who is also having difficulty finding that special gift.

Now for a little bit about our love story… We grew up 20 minutes apart, but didn’t meet until we were attending different colleges in different states. Mutual friends introduced us during our winter break one year. We immediately hit it off on some common interests like sports and travel. Even though we were a few hours away from each other, we kept in close contact through text messages. (This was in the T9 days- if only we had today’s technology!) We also made visits as frequently as we could fit into our schedules and budgets. Thankfully we at least had summers and holiday breaks with each other to spend quality time together.

A few years after graduating we got married on December 27, 2008 right outside New York City. We picked this day because it was our anniversary of our first date together and since it was so close to Christmas, we knew the church would be amazingly decorated. We saved so much money on flowers! It was a relatively small wedding by NYC standards (around 100 people) but everyone in that room meant something important to each of us.

Our first dance song was by the band Journey (hint hint about the name of our blog!). It’s held special meaning to us ever since! It was at our wedding where our anniversary gifting tradition began. We’ll continue to share each of the presents that we’ve gotten each other for years 1-14 (click these links for posts about years 1, 7, 9, 12 and 14), and hopefully derive some inspiration for our upcoming 15th anniversary!

Now as we said at the beginning, we are private people. That means we won’t be sharing any information or pictures about our children or anything else specific to our lives. But we will be posting pictures of some of the gifts we’ve gotten each other. And hopefully we can connect with all of you through this blog as you start your own Present Journey!
