One of two traditional 9th anniversary gifts is Willow. The willow tree is a symbol of fertility and life. It always finds a way to continue growing and spreading its branches even under challenging conditions. Just like a marriage that is nearly a decade old, willow has seen good times and bad, and will continue to thrive in any season of life.
POTTERY
Pottery is the other traditional 9th anniversary gift. Like other presents before this, pottery represents what can happen when you take unfinished balls of clay (or people) and apply patience and care (and heat!) to mold it into something beautiful. Just like a relationship after nine incredible years together!

Engraved Willow Tree Frame
A willow tree symbolizes life with its many branches growing and expanding over several decades. On your 9th anniversary, this handmade laser engraved willow tree frame is the perfect representation of your relationship at this point with its branches spreading out over your engraved names and wedding date.
How romantic! Skip the fancy anniversary dinner and opt for this amazing picnic basket set for two instead. This set comes with literally everything you need to find a special spot in the park or on the beach to have a quiet and intimate meal together out in nature. Cutlery, plates, wine glasses, napkins, and the list goes on! An insulated cooler to keep food and drinks cold. And a custom engraved cheeseboard to make your meal even more special.
Everybody could use a new hobby once in awhile! Hearing bonsai might at first make you nervous about how much care and attention this tree needs to survive (just like your marriage!), but Eastern Leaf provides all the tools and education needed to properly prune and water this beautiful tree to make sure its branches grow wide and healthy. Don’t worry too much, they say it’s perfect for beginners and won’t grow tall enough to put a hole in your roof!
Buy this a pottery kit for a fun and creative date night at-home on your 9th anniversary! Step-by-step guide and everything you need to make three vases to display your dried flower bouquets.

Ceramic diffusers look more like a bold piece of art than a diffuser. On your 9th anniversary fill your room with mouthwatering scents and aromas. You’ll never be able to go back to life before a diffuser like this.
With two categories for the traditional anniversary gift this year, I thought it would make for plenty of easy options. Willow and pottery. Ok, maybe not the easiest categories to shop for Jay after all, but I think it turned out great! For willow, I found this beautiful keepsake box with an engraved willow tree and our initials on the top. It’s perfect for Jay to keep all of his special memories like anniversary cards and drawings from the kids right on his nightstand!
Willow turned out fairly easy, but pottery is where things got tough. But I went beyond the basic category and found this cute coffee mug with a fun message directed towards our kids – No fighting until Daddy has had his coffee. Seems like we’re still waiting for the kids to agree to that part, though! Turns out coffee mugs are a simple and fun way to mix up the traditional and basic idea of pottery.
Jay to Annie
I had the same thoughts as Annie coming into this year. Two options for the traditional, this was going to be so easy! But as it turns out, this year took some extra Googling and creativity compared to some years past. I eventually found this store called Willow Tree that sold these beautiful and intricate hand carved figurines that were made especially for wedding and anniversary gifts. No creativity needed here, this was the perfect willow gift! It’s been displayed on our bedroom dresser ever since and is a nice daily reminder of us as a couple.
Like Annie, pottery was a different story. I Googled and Googled but couldn’t find that perfect gift. Luckily, as it turned out that year we had been house hunting and spending a lot of time exploring the town where we wanted to move. On one of our dozens of weekend open house trips, I noticed an art studio that I thought would be a fun place to bring our kids to someday. After looking it up, I found they offered date night pottery classes based on the movie Ghost. While the date itself was incredibly memorable, the pieces we made were quite the opposite!
