Traditional Gifts: 7th Anniversary

COPPER

One of two traditional 7th anniversary gifts is Copper. Copper has been used for 10,000 years for a whole range of applications that are far too many to list here. But the most important reason why copper has been used so frequently across generations has nothing to do with its rusty color and everything to do with its unique ability to generate heat. A highly conductive metal, copper symbolizes another opportunity to show the strength of your relationship with the added bonus of settling into a warm and comfortable stage of a marriage after seven years.

WOOL

Wool is the other traditional 7th anniversary gift. After keeping the spark alive with copper, wool is your next best friend as it insulates to maintain that warmth and comfort between each other. Wool presents can be a cozy reminder of that fire that keeps your relationship going, especially when your significant may not always be around to cuddle on a cold night! Enjoy one of these gift options to show your spouse how much you care!

Our 7th Anniversary Gifts to Each Other

Annie to Jay (Copper)

Jay previously worked in an office in NYC and would typically wear business casual every day of the week. Which is a far cry from his workout clothes and sweatpants that he seems to think are “work-from-home-appropriate.” But at the time, he would wear dress shirts, so I found these copper collar stays on Etsy that I could have engraved. One says “12-27-08” while the other says “I Still Do.” He may not use them everyday, but usually puts them in when we attend a wedding or other event that requires dressing up.

Annie to Jay (Wool)

Finding Jay a wool gift was a little challenging at first. He’s already got plenty of sweaters and clothing to last a lifetime! But since our anniversary is so close to Christmas, I came across a cute red wool ornament with a romantic quote about love from the famous poet, Rumi. “Let us fall in love again and scatter gold dust all over the world.” It features prominently on our tree every year, and is a reminder to constantly fall in love again and again and travel the world to experience all that life has to offer together.

Jay to Annie (Copper)

Copper was a tough gift idea at the time. I wanted to get her something unique and special, but also something that she would really like and get a lot of use out of. Thankfully her phone was coming due for an upgrade around our anniversary, so I ordered her a new iPhone 6s in Rose Gold. My thinking was that phones have tons of copper wires inside the batteries and components. And rose gold is almost sort of kinda like copper.. right?

Jay to Annie (Wool)

Annie comes from an Irish family and I’ve always seen these beautiful authentic Irish Aran wool sweaters. So I figured this was the perfect gift this year! Our winter anniversary meant she would get a lot of use out of a warm and cozy sweater. I found a shop based in the County that her ancestors were from and ordered a beige hooded cardigan with a Trinity zipper pull directly from Ireland. It’s been a staple in her wardrobe for cool nights out with kids or warm nights at home together.
